Fanatical attention to detail to automotive design, customization, and maintenance.

Owners Kevin and Evan have more than 40 years of combined experience designing, building remodeling and upgrading classic and antique cars. They are proud to carry on the craftmanship of the master’s they’ve learned from including fabrication and machinist Fay Butler, design innovator Boyd Coddington and custom car designer and painter Gene Winfield. If you share a passion for automotive perfection, and the joy of happy motoring, K&E invite you to cruise on over.

“Attention to detail and our ability to create pieces that can no longer be purchased are what really set us apart from other auto specialists,” says Evan.  “We’re also very fair with our pricing, which customers appreciate,” adds Kevin. The pair led the service department at Mercedes Benz of Boston for a number of years before launching K&E Custom Automotive. “The experience definitely shaped our commitment to doing superior quality work,” says Evan. “And definitely motivated us to launch our own business,” says Kevin.

Kevin grew up with a father who did all of his own auto maintenance. “We didn’t have a lot of money, but I think it was also a point of pride for him,” he says. Naturally, Kevin and his brother became their dad’s mechanic assistants, fueling his interest in how cars worked at a young age. When his brother passed away, Kevin took ownership of his ’73 Plymouth Road Runner. “I was 16 at the time and I invested a lot in modernizing that car in his memory. When I was done, it probably wasn’t street legal,” he says chuckling. Since then Kevin has been the proud owner of a rebuilt 1923 Ford and is currently working on a 1938 Ford. Kevin is married and has two beautiful daughters the older of which may have inherited Kevin’s gearhead gene. “She’s starting to tinker around the garage a bit,” he says smiling.

Evan was just 13 when he got his first car, a 1970 Pontiac Lemans. After rebuilding the engine and transmission, adding a big camshaft, raising the car’s compression and adjusting the gear ratio, Evan basically converted the Lemans into a GTO. “It was a real monster,” he recalls fondly. As a kid, Evan traveled to car shows all over New England with his dad, steadily growing his love and knowledge. “My buddy, “Cadillac Ray” and I took over my grandma’s garage one summer to work on a 1939 Hudson business coupe. We chopped the roof, put in an independent front suspension and added a 383 Chrysler motor. Grandma thought we were nuts, but that was one cool hot rod.” While Kevin loves transmission and electrical work, Evan’s passion is for sheet metal and machining. “I like doing work that can be admired for its beauty, and Kevin likes doing work that you can feel when you drive.”

Aside from cars, Evan's other great joy is his son Stephan, who is already showing signs of the craftsman to come.
